Investigating the Microstructural Properties and Phase Distributions of TIG Welded AISI/SAE 304L Stainless Steel Runners in TNT Filled Ammunutions

Among the stainless steels, most widely used group is austenitic steels. The prominent reason why steels are preferred in welded steel fabrications their good weldability. AISI/SAE 304L exhibit adequate corrosion resistance oxidizing environments. also filling interfaces of runners between Tri-Nitro-Toluen vessel and ammunitions defense industry. For manufacture runners, plates pipes mainly joined by fusion welding. These cleaned with hot tapping water at 70°C after each TNT so that cleaning operation can deteriorate properties especially weld zones. Austenitic weldments include basically delta-ferrite austenite phases on regions. Delta ferrite phase exhibits to chloride bearing medias while more resistive high temperature ambients In this study; 3 mm thick rings other two different filler wires ER316L ER2209 Tungsten Inert Gas welding method under pure argon shielding gas. Weld metals heat-affected zones joints were examined using optical metallurgical microscope. It has been determined additional have changed metal heat affected zone microstructures distributions dominantly. Microstructures all compared. Besides, effected made image analysis software Schaefflers diagram. increased fraction it decreased as compared metal.
